Toulouse's Capitole

Throughout the year Air Corsica performs direct flight to Toulouse from Ajaccio, and in the summer from Calvi and Figari.

Since the 12th century the Capitole of Toulouse has been the head quarter of the municipal power. This neoclassic architecture masterpiece extends its bricks and stones housefront on the must-visit plce du Capitole.

The ancestor of the Capitole Theatre was an humble room that was part of the hostel of the Logis de l’Ecu, very close to the Maison de Ville. The place, named « Comédie », was not arranged and for each performance, standing trestles was needed. In 1671 the scene was finally permanently installed and the lodges for the Capitouls were built.

In every age, the building was enlarged, transformed and embellished, the scenery painted on the walls raises the highlights of Toulouse history : From the cathare invasion to the creation of floral games, from counts of Toulouse to headquarters of the city. Famous for its formal great halls, do not miss visiting the illustrious hall : Henri Martin, Jea-Paul Laurens, Paul Gervais,and many other artists have contributed to painting and carving the scenery of these rooms.

For the lyrical art lover : The Capitole is also where the opera de Toulouse takes place with recitals, concerts and various ballets.
