Charleroi's Belfry

The Belfry of Charleroi forms an integral part of the city hall. Designed by architect Joseph André in 1936, it happily combines clacissism and Art Deco. 70 meters tall and accessible walking up 250 stairs. Built with blue and white stones as well as bricks and capped with a bronze bell. The 3 last stages of the building are dedicated to the forty seven bells of The carillon which rings every 15 minutes and sounds a few measures of folk song of the bard of Charleroi Jacques Bertrand.
