The Nice Carnival is the first carnival in France and one of the most famous in the world. It takes place every winter, in February, for two weeks and attracts several hundred thousand spectators. A festival of pagan origin, it historically takes place just before the Lenten period and it is at the "Belle Epoque" that the Nice Carnival reaches its peak to become the largest Carnival in the world.

Nowadays, the Nice Carnival is a real international crossroads, with carnival groups from all over the world, allows the discovery of the richness, dynamism and music of other carnivals with the presence of samba schools, steel band orchestras, salsa dancers... The great party in Nice is therefore immersed in this mixture of cultures (to renew itself constantly).

Every year, the theme of Carnival is known from the spring before, and already the fever takes hold of the Carnivalers for the design of the floats - searching for innovative ideas ... Thus, the Carnival of Nice is distinguished from the others by the extraordinary dimensions of its cardboard-paste subjects and its floats.

Drawing inspiration from traditional themes (allegories, bestiaries, pastiches of political and social events, local satire...), the Nice Carnival brings a magical atmosphere with mythical and symbolic characters.

Just before the beginning of the Carnival, His Majesty the King arrives in Masséna Square to announce the opening of this festive period by taking the keys to the city and reigning there for the duration of the Carnival. Then there is the famous "battle of flowers" during which people throw fragrant bouquets at each other's faces.
