Formalities

Any preparation for a trip, within France as abroad, requires specific organisation. Air Corsica would like to offer you some tips to help you navigate the different steps to be taken and to better prepare you for your trip.

Travel Documents

What documents must I present to board a plane?

Before the flight’s departure,  each passenger must  ensure that they have valid travel documents which comply with Air Corsica’s provisions, Immigration Services and the destination countries’ authorities.

We recommend that you check the entry and travel requirements for your destination country/countries by contacting the proper embassies or consulates. All passengers must travel with valid travel documents including babies and minors.

The only travel documents permitted by Air Corsica are:

  • A valid National Identity Card issued by an EU government or party to the Schengen Agreement. The said countries are : Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland.
  • A driving licence but only for flights within metropolitan France.
  • A passport is required for all travel outside the European Economic Area (EEA) which must be valid for the duration of the intended stay.
  • A visa if applicable.

It is each passenger’s responsibility to check the validity date of their travel documents and to renew them if necessary (please note that this may take a long time ). Otherwise, the passenger will have to pay any fine, penalty or expenses resulting from the non-compliance with this requirement which would be imposed on Air Corsica by the authorities.

Temporary documents issued for a National Identity Card or Passport are not allowed. This is because these documents do not include a photograph.

Information : since January 2014, the French National Identity Card is now valid for 15 years, instead of 10 years. Cards issued before this date have an extension of 5 years after their initial validity period. Nevertheless, some countries (including Belgium) do not recognise this new provision. Also, we strongly recommend that you travel with a valid passport, to facilitate the entry and stay requirements of your destination country.

Warning: some countries require a passport that is valid for several months after the return date. Moreover, a ticket for a return journey or onward travel may also be required.

Please also note that some countries require that airlines provide some or all of the information they have concerning their passengers. The required information appears in the passport’s encoded fields.

For more information, please visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development’s website.

In addition, whatever the journey, and due to reinforced security measures at airports, the authorities request that passengers must present their valid travel documents at the check-in desks if they deposit luggage in the hold and at the boarding gate for documentary reconciliation purposes.

Minor travellers

To travel with Air Corsica, all minors must be in possession of valid identification: a passport or a national identity card depending on the destination.

Whether your child is travelling unaccompanied or with you, we recommend that you check the entry and residence requirements for minors by contacting the proper embassies or consulates.

For more information, please visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development’s website.

Please note: If you are travelling with your child but they do not have the same name as you, take the Family Record Book or a birth certificate to provide evidence of your relationship.

Minor French nationals

Every French minor who is travelling must be in possession of an identity document (passport or national identity card depending on the destination). This identity document must be in their name. As of 26 June 2012, a child can no longer appear on one of their parent’s passport.

Warning: the Family Record Book is not a form of identity. It does not allow the minor who is travelling to board a plan, even on flights within metropolitan France.

Juvenile European citizens

For journeys to or within Europe, any European minor* must be in possession of a personal identity document (passport or national identity card depending on the destination). If these journeys require a passport, the minor must therefore have their own passport. They cannot appear on one of their parent’s passport.

*The requirement for minors to possess an individual identity document applies to all European nationals, except nationals of the United Kingdom, Ireland and Denmark.

Authorisation to leave the country

As of 15 January 2017, a child residing in metropolitan France and travelling abroad unaccompanied or without one of their parents must be issued with an authorisation to leave that country. This document is an established form signed by a parent (or legal guardian). A photocopy of the signatory parent’s form of identity must be attached to this document.

Children travelling unaccompanied

Children travelling unaccompanied between 12 and 17 years

Children under 18 years who are travelling unaccompanied must present their identity card in order to travel. This form of identification is sufficient in France and in some countries within the European Union. They can also present their own passport.

To travel abroad or to an overseas department or territory, these children also need an authorisation to leave the country, which may be issued by their local town hall.

Children travelling between 4 and 11 years under the “UM”

A minor who is travelling unaccompanied must be able to prove their identity and nationality. Authorisation to leave the country is required.

A minor travelling unaccompanied can travel in Europe, provided they have the following documents:

  • Their valid national identity card (only for countries in the European Union as well as Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Monaco, Andorra, San Marino, and the Holy Sea),
  • Or their valid passport.
  • And an authorisation to leave the country.

Passport information required

In the case of some countries of departure or arrival, certain personal information may be requested by the authorities during reservation and check-in. This data determines at once both entry and departure of a country in question. These measures also includes flights across the United Kingdom. For these reasons, Air Corsica is obliged to collect certain personal data before departure. The reservation and check-in system guides the traveller throughout this process.

This data, called API data, is sent to the immigration authorities of your destination country. Their role is to supplement the information contained in your passport’s encoded fields:

  • Name and first name
  • Date of birth and sex
  • Passport number
  • Passport country of issue
  • Passport expiry date
  • Nationality
  • Country of residence (for travel to the United States only)
  • Temporary address of your stay (for travel to the United States only). This address must include number, street, city, state abbreviation, and zip code.

It is recommended to provide all such information as quickly as possible with your travel agent or when checking in online. If you are unable to check-in online, you can still communicate this data using self-service check-in machines which are available at the airport. The staff at the desk can also record the API of your passport data.
